Catherine Nathan

Catherine Nathan is a lawyer, certified coach, and founder of Catherine Nathan Coaching for Lawyers LLC. Catherine’s unique background combines her legal and coach training. Her vast experience includes founding and leading Spencer Stuart’s Legal, Compliance & Government Affairs practice, where she focused on general counsel recruitment at Fortune 500 companies and major nonprofit organizations.

Catherine is certified by Columbia University's Coaching Certification Program, one of the premier and most rigorous coaching programs in the country. She is also a member of the International Coaching Federation, the Association of Corporate Counsel's coaching roster, and is licensed to administer the full suite of NBI assessment tools and instruments. With her distinctive qualifications, Catherine helps senior in-house lawyers and law firm partners overcome challenges and gain the insights that will enable them to move forward in their careers.

Early in her career, Catherine spent six years as an associate with two respected Wall Street law firms, Chadbourne & Parke and Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler. Seeking new challenges after working as an attorney, she moved into legal recruiting. Catherine ultimately became one of the most prominent executive search professionals in the country. At Spencer Stuart, her general counsel practice included GC placements at 3M, Boeing, Pfizer, Procter & Gamble, Yale University, and numerous other well-known corporations, universities, and nonprofits, including many mid-level organizations.

With her experience as an attorney, and her decades of innovation and success in the legal search space, Catherine’s insight has long been in high demand from legal professionals looking to transition or advance in their careers. Becoming an attorney coach was a logical next step in her own career. Catherine has combined the knowledge gleaned from her exceptional work experience and her in-depth training from Columbia University to help legal professionals achieve their career goals.

Catherine graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A and earned her law degree from UC Berkeley School of Law. She is admitted to practice in New York and the District of Columbia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

In addition to her coaching career, as a volunteer lawyer with The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program, Catherine represented veterans in their appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. She also developed an interviewing program for, and continues to work with, graduating 8^th graders from underserved communities who attend Harlem Academy in New York City. Catherine served as an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association earlier in her career and also developed and taught a writing program at American University.
